Parapenaeopsis, more commonly known as giant tiger prawn or black tiger shrimp, is a species of large freshwater shrimp found primarily in Asia. It is highly sought after in the fishing industry due to its succulent taste and firm flesh.

The giant tiger prawn typically grows up to 33 cm in length and weighs around 300 grams. It is distinguishable by its striking black stripes and bright orange colouring, which fade to a creamy white towards the tail. The prawn is primarily found in the shallow waters of brackish rivers, estuaries and mangrove swamps, where it feeds on small fish, crustaceans and detritus.

The giant tiger prawn is considered a delicacy in many countries, including Japan, China, Thailand and Vietnam. Due to its commercial importance, it has been heavily farmed in ponds and tanks for several decades. In recent years, selective breeding programs have been implemented to enhance the prawn's growth rates, disease resistance and overall quality.
