With the advent of New Year holidays, glitter becomes attractive even for those who during the year prefer nude shades and matte tops. Winter manicure with glitter is especially popular, because they are associated with the atmosphere of holidays and parties. Lacquer with glitter looks so delightful in the bottle that there is a desire to immediately apply it to the nails.

However, using glitter varnish has its own subtleties. To achieve the perfect result, it's important to know a few simple but effective lifehacks. If you usually ignore applying a base, now is the time to reconsider this approach. We recommend choosing a rubber base - it will create a perfectly smooth finish, making it much easier to remove glitter later.
You can also use a special base for glitter texture, which can be removed with a film from the nails. This is ideal for those who want to add glitter to their look for a couple of days and then easily return to their usual, more subdued style. 

We recommend using liquid tape to protect the skin around your nails during nail polish application. Once dry, it turns into a thin elastic film that effectively prevents the nail polish from getting on your skin. If liquid tape is not available, it can be replaced with ordinary PVA glue, scotch tape or petroleum jelly. These products will help keep your manicure neat and clean. 

To create a manicure that will please not only you but also those around you, use a make-up sponge or a small piece of regular sponge.

- Apply polish to the edge of the sponge - the glitter will stay on the surface and the liquid will be absorbed into the sponge.
- When you apply the sponge to the nail, you will get an even and dense coating without lumps, without the need for an additional layer of varnish to eliminate ‘gaps’.
- Normal polish should dry completely before applying a second coat, but for glitter polish it is recommended to wait about three minutes to allow it to dry well.  

Manicurists often avoid using acetone because it can dry the nails and skin. However, acetone is only harmful to the nails when exposed to it for long periods of time, such as during the gel polish removal process. If you need to smooth out a thick layer of glitter, apply some acetone to a piece of sponge and gently tap the problem area. The light pressure will not erase the varnish completely, but will only smooth out the unevenness, maintaining a neat look. 

If you use a brush to apply your nail polish, be sure to wipe it with a paper towel after each nail. This will avoid lumps and ensure that each coat is perfectly smooth and thin. 

If glitter accidentally gets on your skin and you forgot to prevent it beforehand, there is a simple solution: large glitter can be gently removed by lightly prying it off, while small ones can be easily removed with scotch tape. Be sure to wait until the nail polish is completely dry to avoid damaging your manicure. 

The biggest challenge when applying glitter polish is to achieve an even and dense coverage. A simple solution is to use a metallic lacquer that matches the colour of the glitter as a substrate. A single coat is enough to create the perfect base.

Applying glitter nail polish is a pleasure, but removing it can be a real challenge because of the tiny glitter particles that literally cling to the nail plate. Even a few passes with a sponge heavily moistened with nail polish remover don't always get rid of the entire coating. Trying to scrape off the glitter with an orange stick is also not an option - it can traumatise your nails. 

Glitter is made from non-porous materials such as mylar, glass or aluminium. These materials do not allow acetone to easily penetrate under the glitter layer, which makes it quite difficult to remove glitter polish from nails. 

To effectively remove glitter polish from your nails, tear a cotton disc into 10 small pieces. Moisten them with acetone or special nail polish remover, then gently apply them to each nail. Leave it on for 2-3 minutes to allow the remedy to take effect. For a better effect, you can wrap your fingers in foil, creating a heat effect that will speed up the process. 

Another way is to use acetone-free gel polish remover. These products are effective enough to quickly remove even glitter, while being enriched with moisturizing ingredients that minimize dehydration of the nails and skin.

The key is not to rush. If you try to peel off the glitter, you might damage the nail. And if you rub too hard, it can cause irritation on the skin around the cuticle and sidewalls.
