Hair Care at Home in Winter: DIY Oils for Nourishment and Restoration
Our collection of hats and berets inevitably makes its way back into wardrobes with the first signs of cold weather—not just because they keep us warm. The chilly season also brings less pleasant “bonuses”: hair becomes dry, brittle, loses elasticity, and its natural shine. Stylish winter accessories may temporarily hide the problem, but for noticeable and lasting results, proper and regular care is essential.

Below, you’ll find a selection of effective hair oils that are easy to make at home. These natural blends help restore softness, smoothness, and a healthy, well-groomed look to dry strands. The best part? All the recipes are incredibly simple—you won’t need a stove, special tools, or much time.

Although these oil treatments are suitable year-round, they become true must-haves in winter thanks to their rich, nourishing, and restorative properties. Read on for step-by-step instructions on creating these homemade treatments, along with helpful tips for hair care during the cold season.

1. Coconut Oil and Lemongrass
.

The combination of coconut oil and lemongrass is an effective duo for caring for dry and dehydrated hair. Coconut oil, rich in vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids, deeply nourishes and moisturizes the hair, restoring softness, elasticity, and a healthy shine. Lemongrass essential oil complements this care: it has anti-inflammatory properties, soothes the scalp, and helps combat flaking—one of the most common issues with dry hair.
However, it’s important to use this combination in moderation. The principle of “less is more” works perfectly here: too much oil can weigh hair down and reduce volume. Typically, one to two tablespoons of the mixture are enough to evenly coat the hair and achieve maximum effect without overloading it.

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup coconut oil
• 3–5 drops lemongrass essential oil

Instructions:

• In a glass or plastic bowl with a lid, thoroughly mix the two ingredients. Close the lid and gently stir or shake.
• Transfer the prepared mixture into a smaller container for convenient storage.

How to use:

• This hair oil works best when applied to slightly damp hair.
• Use just one tablespoon if your hair needs nourishment and care.

2. Coconut, jojoba, avocado, and olive oils, rosemary, and sage
.

Ingredients:

• 1/4 cup coconut oil
• 3 tbsp olive oil
• 1/4 cup jojoba oil
• 3 tbsp avocado oil
• 3–5 drops rosemary essential oil
• 5 drops sage oil
• 3–5 drops of your favorite fragrance oil *

* Fragrance oil is optional since the blend itself has very little scent. However, adding just a few drops of your favorite essential oil will give the mixture a new character: you can personalize it and choose a subtle, sophisticated aroma that will gently accompany your hair.

Instructions:

• If the coconut oil has solidified, place the jar in a bowl of hot (not boiling) water and let it soften.
• In a glass or plastic container with a lid, mix all the ingredients, close tightly, and shake vigorously several times.
• Pour the finished blend into a small container or a clean bottle with a pump for easy use.

How to use:

• This DIY hair oil works best when applied to slightly damp hair.
•  If you straighten your hair, use a small amount — from the size of a pea to the size of a date — and apply only to the ends of dry hair to add shine and softness. Since this oil is quite nourishing, be careful with the amount to avoid weighing your hair down.
• How often you use it depends on your hair type — from once a week to daily use.

3. Castor and Jojoba Oil
.

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup castor oil
• 1/2 cup jojoba oil

Instructions:

• Mix equal parts of castor oil and jojoba oil and transfer the blend into a glass bottle.
• Using a dropper, apply a few drops to the scalp and gently massage.
• Can be used on damp or dry hair.
• Use 2–4 times a week, depending on your hair type and needs.

How to Use:

• Castor oil has a thick consistency, so it is recommended to mix it in equal parts with a carrier oil to make it lighter and easier to apply. For dry and brittle hair, jojoba oil is especially suitable.
• Apply the mixture to damp or dry hair — to the roots to strengthen and stimulate growth, and to split ends for nourishment.
• Use at least twice a week.

For all these oils, we recommend reusing empty bottles or purchasing a special glass container for the mixture. This approach is not only more environmentally friendly than plastic but also more reliable for storing the product: amber or cobalt-blue glass bottles protect the oil from oxidation, even when stored at room temperature, and do not absorb external odors.

The right hairbrush is just as important as hair care itself. At Global Fashion, you’ll find high-quality brushes at the best prices, designed to gently care for your hair, prevent breakage, and give it a healthy shine.
